The U11G Tecumseh Saints began the season with several question marks. Our two primary ball handlers the season prior did not return for U11. The team decided to play in the OBL and began the year in Division 1 wondering if it was the right level of competition.
We were a combined 0-4 after two events. It was clear the team needed to work harder in order to adapt and become more competitive. In the 3rd OBL weekend we played the top seeded teams. We had an encouraging 20 point loss to a team that was beating most opponents by 20 or more. Our next game was a breakthrough. We defeated a team with only 1 loss at that time. A sense of relief and achievement came over the team, and parents. We were reseeded into Division 2 for the next two OBL weekends and went 4-2. All of our players were contributing to the team’s success. The team’s willingness to share the ball and play together became our greatest strength.
At the OBA tournament, we entered as the top seed in Division 2. We went 3-0 in pool play, winning in exciting fashion in each game. Our aggressive defence late in games was noted by opposing coaches. The girls played their hearts out in the Gold Medal game, coming up short by a single point.
It was another year of learning and growth. The girls bonded during practices, games and team events. The players and families enjoyed a particularly great evening of dinner and karaoke during OBAs (photo attached). I would like to thank everyone involved in a great season, especially our parents and Coaches Junior and Olivia!
